Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) were fed with dry feed, in sea net pens from May 2003 to September 2004, under natural conditions occurring in Northern Norway, with a sea temperature varying from 3.3 ° to 16.6 °C. The fish was either fed five times or three times a week, once a day to saturation until December 2003, and after that five times or twice a week, once a day to saturation until September 2004. Fish fed five times a week had a higher FCR 1.47 compared with 1.35 for fish fed three to twice a week for the entire period. No significant differences were found in growth or chemical composition in the cod due to the feeding intervals. The best growth of the fish was in the first summer from May to September 2003 with a specific growth rate (SGR) of 0.81% per day. From June to September 2004, the SGR was 0.42% per day. From December to May, the SGR was negligible caused by low‐water temperature, darkness, and sexual maturation. The liver index increased from 7% to a maximum of 16% during the growth period except during the sexual maturation period from November to April, where it shows a slight decrease. Maturation and seasonal variation are the factors having the largest influence on the growth and chemical composition of the cod.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   Feeding habits of Favonigobius gymnauchen , Repomucenus spp. and Tarphops oligolepis were examined during the period from May to August in 1999, 2000 and 2001 at a sandy beach in the central Seto Inland Sea, Japan. The three species of fish accounted for more than 60% of all fish collected in terms of number of individuals. All three species mainly consumed small crustaceans. However, the major prey of F .  gymnauchen and Repomucenus spp. differed from that of T .  oligolepis . F .  gymnauchen and Repomucenus spp. mainly consumed mysids and small crangonid shrimp (<12 mm in body length), which predominated in the study area. T .  oligolepis actively selected only epifaunal mysids Nipponomysis ornata and avoided crangonid shrimp and gammarids . The frequencies of occurrence of fish in the guts of the three dominant species were very low, and larval and juvenile Japanese flounder were not observed in any of the three fish species. The diet of juvenile Japanese flounder was similar to that of the three species. From these results, it appears that these three fish are competing species for the flounder.  相似文献

Field-derived growth rates (RNA-DNA based) of cod (Gadus morhua) larvae collected on the southern flank of Georges Bank were higher on average in May 1993 than May 1994, despite the apparent higher abundance of potential prey in 1994. A biophysical modeling study is presented here in which factors are examined that may have led to the difference in population mean growth. A one-dimensional physical model, forced by winds and tides, was used to simulate the vertical structure (of currents, temperature field, and turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate) following a column of water in a Lagrangian sense at a site on the southern flank of Georges Bank over 5-day periods in late May of 1993 and 1994. The biophysical model and observed zooplankton abundance allowed us to explore the vertical structure and temporal (hourly) evolution of feeding and growth for cod larvae in relation to environmental conditions. Our trophodynamic model is improved over previous versions and now includes the effect of light on larval feeding response, as well as the effect of temperature on larval metabolic costs, ingestion, and digestion. Larval prey profiles, comprising four copepod species, were used from a time series of 1/4-m2 MOCNESS tows to define the prey field. Data from a collateral time-series of larval gut contents (1-m2 MOCNESS tows) was used to define maximum ingestion (satiation level) and prey selection. Model outputs provide depth-dependent estimates of growth, prey biomass ingested, larval length, and larval weight. Water-column growth-rate profiles were made for four size classes of larvae (5, 6, 7 and 9 mm) under the environmental conditions observed in May 1993 and 1994. A weighted-mean growth rate based on the mean vertical distribution of larvae was estimated for each size class. In all cases, when using all available potential prey, the model-derived 1994 growth rates were higher (by 3–6% day−1) than those for 1993. However, simulations in which 7-mm larvae followed the field-derived weighted mean depth over the sampling period, and were limited to their preferred Pseudocalanus prey, resulted in average growth of 12.2% day−1 for 1993 and 9.7% day−1 for 1994. These compared closely to the field growth means of 11.3% day−1 in 1993 and 9.8% day−1 in 1994. Thus, the lower observed growth in May 1994 may have resulted from depth-dependent food limitation and prey-selectivity coupled with the greater metabolic costs induced by the higher temperature that year.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted in rice field plots each of 30 m2 to determine the appropriate combination of feeding and fertilization regimes for the giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii (De Man, 1879) cultured along with rice in rice fields. There were four treatments: rice culture only with regular fertilization (A, control); rice–prawn integrated culture with regular fertilization (B); rice–prawn integrated culture with basal fertilization and commercial feed (C) and rice–prawn integrated culture with regular fertilization and commercial feed (D). Juvenile prawns of 1.5‐g size were stocked on the third day after rice transplantation at a density of 2 prawns m?2 and fed twice daily at 5% reducing to 2% of body weight during the experiment. The rice yield in treatment D (0.42 kg m?2) was significantly higher than that in other treatments (0.34, 0.36, 0.34 kg m?2 in treatments A, B, C respectively). Prawns grew significantly faster (P<0.05) in treatments C and D (23.8±0.9 and 22.0±1.7 g prawn?1 respectively) than in treatment B (14.7±1.6 g prawn?1). Prawn production in treatment C (347±13 kg ha?1 crop?1) was significantly (P<0.05) higher than that (234±30 kg ha?1 crop?1) in treatment B, while in treatment D (296±53 kg ha?1 crop?1) it was not significantly different from that in treatments B and C (P>0.05). Treatment C gave the highest economic returns among all treatments, followed by treatments D and B, indicating that the combination of basal fertilization and commercial feed is the most appropriate nutrient input regime for the rice–prawn integrated culture system.  相似文献

This review summarizes results of an extensive series of laboratory studies on the behavioural responses of early life stages of walleye pollock, Theragra chakogramma to key environmental factors including light, temperature, gravity, turbulence, food availability and predator presence. Experiments focused on vertical distribution of egg through 0-age stages, and social interactions of age-0 juveniles. Key factors were modified either singly or in concert to determine their direct and indirect influence on fish behaviour. The observed results suggest that the behaviour of individual fish depends on the integration of a continually changing hierarchy of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors, with the relative importance of a specific factor varying with ontogeny and over time and space. The broad range of responses displayed by early life stages suggests that behaviour plays an important role in determining the consequences of environmental variability on walleye pollock populations. In general, results from our laboratory experiments are consistent with patterns observed in field studies, supporting the efficacy of using experimental behavioural research to define some of the underlying mechanisms controlling distribution and survival in the field, and eventual recruitment to adult populations.  相似文献

Fifteen common carp weighing 19.2±2.9 g were reared individually in chambers of a respirometer system which allowed feeding, and continuous measurement of oxygen consumption. The fish were divided into three groups of 5 each, and were given control feed (C group), control feed supplemented with 150 mg kg−1 of Quillaja saponins (QS) (S150 group), and control and the saponin supplemented diet during alternate weeks (S150b group), for 56 days. Supplementation with QS at a level of 150 mg kg−1 caused a significant (P<0.05) increase in metabolic growth rate, food conversion efficiency (FCE), protein productive value (PPV) and apparent lipid conversion (ALC) of carp, even as the metabolic rate was lower than the C group. The efficiency of energy utilisation indicated by parameters such as energy expenditure (EE), energy retention (ER) and amount of oxygen consumed per unit body mass gain (OPM) were also significantly (P<0.05) better in the S150 group. The performance of the S150b group was intermediate between the C and S150 group in this experiment. Possible reasons for the effects of dietary QS are discussed. It was concluded that there has to be continuous dietary supply of QS at the level of 150 mg kg−1, for maximum positive effects of these substances on growth of common carp. Larvae of two caridean shrimp species, Macrobrachium rosenbergii (De Man) and Palaemon elegans Rathke, were fed live and artificial diets. P. elegans larvae fed exclusively live Artemia salina (15 nauplii mL?1) developed into first postlarval stage (PL1) within 12 days at a temperature of 25°C and salinity 32.5 g L?1. Their survival and mean total length at this stage were 88.5% and 6.7 mm respectively. M. rosenbergii larvae fed on 15 Artemia mL?1 started to metamorphose into PLl within 24 days at 29–30°C and 12 g L?1. Attempts to completely replace live Artemia for rearing P. elegans during early stages failed, and only a partial replacement was achieved for the larvae of both species. P. elegans larvae survived (49%) solely on a microgranulated diet (Frippak PL diet) from stage zoea (Z) 4–5 to PL1. Similarly, a microencapsulated diet (Frippak CD3) also sustained M. rosenbergii larvae from Z5–6 to PL1 with a 28% survival. Development of the larvae of both species was retarded by 2–3 days and their survivals were lower than those fed on the live diet. The inability of the early larvae of these caridean species to survive on artificial diets is attributed to their undeveloped guts and limited enzymatic capabilities. Trypsin activity in the larvae was determined for all larval stages. It was found that the highest trypsin activity, at stage Z4–5 in P. elegans and at stage Z5–6 in M. rosenbergii, coincides with a rapid increase in the volume of the hepatopancreas and the formation of the filter apparatus. These morphological changes in the gut structure appear to enable the larvae to utilize artificial diets after stage Z5–6. Low larval trypsin activities may be compensated by the easily digestible content of their live prey during early larval stages (Z1–Z4/5) and by longer gastroevacuation time (GET) and almost fully developed guts during later stages.  相似文献

The addition of a yeast culture food supplement (DVAqua from Diamond V. Mills, Cedar Rapids, IA, USA) was evaluated during feeding of McConaughy strain rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss. Two trials were run consecutively, starting with initial feeding, and were replicated over 2 years. The yeast culture was added to commercial trout starter at levels of 0.125 and 0.25 g kg?1. The number of rainbow trout that died during the first 4 weeks of rearing was significantly reduced in the tanks receiving either of the yeast culture‐supplemented diets compared with the tanks receiving a control starter diet. Ending tank weights and gain were significantly and consistently greater in the tanks fed the 0.25 g kg?1 yeast culture diet. Individual fish weights were also significantly heavier in the fish‐fed yeast culture containing diets in each year of the study at the end of 27 days. In the trials from 4 to 8 weeks postinitial feeding, mortality rates were significantly less only in the tanks receiving 0.25 g kg?1 yeast culture supplementation. Individual fish lengths and weights at the end of the second trial were significantly greater in the tanks receiving either level of yeast culture compared with the control diet only in 1 year. Total tank weights and feed conversion were not significantly different between any of the treatments. The inclusion of DVAqua yeast culture provided significant increases in trout survival and growth through the first 4 weeks of feeding, with continued benefits for the next 4 weeks.  相似文献

分别以不同水温15、20、25、30℃为4个试验组,研究糙海参成参的摄食和生长。试验结果表明:糙海参体重的增长与水温的变化密切相关;糙海参的最适生长水温为20~30℃,在25℃时生长最快,日增重量和日增重率分别为7.667 g和1.48%,而且显著高于其他试验组。在水温15℃时,日增重量和日增重率分别为0.1 g和0.022%,有时会出现负增长。当水温达到15℃时,糙海参摄食活动减少,停止摄食,体重不再增加。在水质因子研究方面,分为不换水试验组、换水1/3试验组(每日)、全部换水试验组(每日),研究了不同水质对糙海参生长的影响。经过15 d养殖,结果表明:其他水质指标波动在正常范围,3个试验组间无明显差别,只有NO2-含量有明显的差异。不换水组、换水1/3组和全部换水组的亚硝酸盐质量浓度分别是1.34 mg/L、0.55 mg/L和0.23 mg/L。亚硝酸盐质量浓度大小与海参生长有密切关系,两者呈负相关。全部换水组亚硝酸盐质量浓度显著低于其他试验组,糙海参生长最快;不换水试验组,部分糙海参日增重量和日增重率呈负增长,部分已经吐脏。  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to compare the patterns of plasma free amino acid concentrations after force-feeding in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum) with and without dorsal aorta cannulation. In the first experiment, 35 rainbow trout averaging 504 ± 7.8 g (mean ± SD) were divided into seven groups of five fish each. After 48 h starvation, a group of fish was anaesthetized and blood samples were taken at one of the following time periods: 0, 4, 8, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h after feeding. In the second experiment, five dorsal aorta cannulated rainbow trout averaging 511 ± 6.2 g (mean ± SD) were kept in a cage. After 48 h starvation, the fish were anaesthetized and blood samples were taken from the same fish at 0, 4, 8, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h after feeding. In the first experiment, the concentration of all plasma free amino acids except histidine and glycine peaked at 4 h and returned to the basal level 24 h after feeding. In the second experiment, the concentration of all plasma free amino acids except isoleucine, leucine, phenylalanine and tryptophan also peaked at 4 h and returned to the basal level 24 h after feeding. These results showed that the pattern of plasma free amino acid concentrations from fish with and without dorsal aorta cannulation were similar.  相似文献
